Most of us shudder to think of what it would be like to go back to a life before the Internet, smartphones, laptop computers, tablets, iPods, e-readers, and so on. (Some who are reading this may not even fathom what such a world could have possibly been like.) Is our reliance on ubiquitous personal technology something that enriches our lives or makes us slaves to our devices?
