What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis mainly affects women of childbearing age, and about 5 million women in the United States have endometriosis. Endometriosis is usually found in the lower abdomen, or pelvis, but it can appear anywhere in the body. Most women suffering from Endometriosis do not realize that they suffer from it until they realize that they are unable to get pregnant. Other symptoms include pain in your lower tummy, pain during or after sex, excessive bleeding or infertility. According to the office of Women's Health, the internal bleeding can also lead to scar tissue formation, blocked fallopian tubes and bowel problems. According to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologist (ACOG), the only way for Endometriosis to be diagnosed is through laparoscopy. Laparoscopy is a minor surgical procedure that involves putting a thin scope into your abdomen to view your pelvic region.
