What is an Ohm?
75 Views • Apr 11, 2012
Description
When choosing the right set of speakers to go with your shiny new receiver, one of the things you might want to pay attention to is the Ohm rating of the speakers. The higher the Ohm rating on the speaker, the more power is required by the amplifier to drive the speaker and produce the sound. Amps are typically sold with specific Ohm ratings in mind. For example, an amplifier might indicate that it's 1,000 watts at 4 ohms, but this doesn't mean it will be the same when powering a speaker with 8 ohms of resistance.
Do you have an amplifier in your home? What brand/model, and do you know it's optimal Ohm rating?
