What Does Amplifier or Speaker Wattage Mean?

A common misconception when it comes to speakers and amplifiers is that there is a direct association between wattage and loudness of the equipment. While speakers that draw higher power tend to be louder than the ones that use significantly less, there are many examples where a speaker can pump out sound at incredibly high volumes on very little wattage.
