What Are Some Nonviolent Character-Driven Shows?

As always, I assume you have watched “Friday Night Lights.” If you haven’t, it’s one of the best
shows of the modern era, with some of the most richly developed characters TV has known.
I miss shows like “Brothers and Sisters” and “Parenthood.” “This Is Us” is in that vein, and I wish there were more shows like that.
You might also like “Shameless,” both the British original (available on Hulu)
and Showtime’s still-running American version (on Netflix), which diverges significantly from its source material.
Otherwise, the show most like “Parenthood” is probably “The Fosters,” but it often gets overlooked because it’s ostensibly for teens.
It centers on a teenage girl, Callie (Maia Mitchell), whose new foster family winds up being
the best thing that’s ever happened to her, even though it is not exactly smooth sailing.
