"West Side Story" honour

It's been fifty years since this iconic film was released and today "West Side Story" is considered one of the great classics.
On Tuesday (November 15) its stars received one of Hollywood's biggest honours -- their hands and footprints immortalised in cement.
Rita Moreno, Russ Tamblyn, and George Chakiris cast their impressions in the courtyard of Grauman's Chinese Theater, where West Side Story originally premiered in 1961.
SOUNDBITE: Actor George Chakiris saying (English):
"In my wildest dreams, I never imagined that ten years later, in 1961, 'West Side Story' would premiere at this very theatre, so it was a little bit of a circle, if you like."
Actor Russ Tamblyn said the surviving cast members were thinking of their co-star, the late Natalie Wood who died in 1981. She was the lead actress in the film, playing Maria.
SOUNDBITE: Actor Russ Tamblyn saying: (English)
"Natalie got her way, she always got her way, and so we ended up walking this way, and we came down, and we came here, and we all walked around, and I remember there was a moment when I was down, I was checking my hand prints, and we were sort of yelling at each other, and I looked up and here were all of us, groveling around on the cement, checking out the hand prints and the foot prints."
Little did they know the film based on the 1957 musical would endure as it has and now it's memory is preserved forever in concrete.
