Wendy Webb - Bonfire Night
5 Views • Nov 10, 2014
Description
Sticky toffee in my pocket
glues warm fingers beside the fire,
crunching shards of sticky mire
damp darkness drifts in evening’s pyre.
Sizzling sounds and rich aromas
wrap thickly round the multitude.
Barbeque-blackened sooty food
quells a drooling and hungry brood.
Crackling sparks streak through the darkness
chilling ice-glass embers ash-white.
Spear-steps shiver, drag out of sight
and slam the doors against the night.
