Wendie Kelley - One Summer's Day

He came to me on a summer's day
at the auction a throwaway,
he turned and looked and I knew then
he turned into my friend.

He came to me old and worn
ragged hair and hooves were torn,
but in his eyes a heart of gold
came to me worn and old.

He needed mending
so much to do, no pretending.
Told me something from deep inside,
came to me so I could ride.

He came to me, he knew I would
take care of him best I could,
a stall, fresh hay, a vet an care
he came to me to be repaired.

He came to me and over time
his eyes grew bright, hair turned fine
his hooves and legs were strong
he came to me, a friend lifelong.

He came to me one summer's day
even though he was a throwaway,
with love and care we made a team
the heart of gold, that I had seen.
