Description

Seven Swiss museums are taking part in an ambitious project to shed more light on how the Romans used the lakes and rivers for trade at a time when the empire was at its most peaceful and prosperous. Avenches, formerly known as Aventicum, was the Roman capital of Switzerland in the first few centuries AD with control over a vast territory. Artifacts found in the region, and now on display as part of the ‘Between lakes’ project, show that the lakes and rivers served as key transport routes between Gallo-Roman sites.
