Water contamination worries Thais

Residents queue for drinking water as widespread flooding raises concerns about the safety of drinking water in Thailand.
The worst floods in half a century have killed 370 people and affected over 2 million.
Now water from Bangkok's treatment plant is flowing through industrial areas, officials are trying to reassure people its safe to drink.
(SOUNDBITE) (Thai) DIRECTOR OF WATER QUALITY DEPARTMENT OF METROPOLITAN WATERWORKS AUTHORITY, JONGKOLNEE ARSUWATE, SAYING:
"Before flooding in the north, our water quality department told those industrial estates to remove chemical substances and lift them 10 metres above the ground. I assure you that the water we produce is not contaminated by heavy chemicals."
But not all residents are convinced.
(SOUNDBITE) (Thai) BANGKOK RESIDENT PETCHARA SRIPETCH SAYING:
"I'm not so sure… Usually I drink water from the filter but this time I have to boil it after fetching the water from the filter. Although the government said the water is safe to drink, personally I don't believe it."
Several water filtering plants have been shut down putting a premium on bottled water.
