Description
Speed records, "gull-wing" doors, a rotary engine, and a diesel engine accelerating to 300 kilometers per hour — in 1970, this car drove visitors to auto shows crazy. The wealthiest people in the world wrote checks for half a million marks, but Mercedes consistently refused. The C111 was not intended for sale; it was a pure rolling laboratory for testing crazy technologies. In this episode, we will tell the story of the legendary series of prototypes that broke dozens of world records at the Nardo track and forever changed the perception of what a diesel engine could be. And at the end, we will find out where the surviving models are now and why this car never went into production.
