Black Therapists Are Using Instagram To Connect With, Support Persons Of Color

Psychologist Mariel Buquè says persons of color have historically not self-connected to therapy and, more often than not, drop out after the first session.
Another study has found it's also harder for black people to even get an appointment with a psychotherapist.
Allure reports that for the past couple of years, dozens of Black therapists have grown their followings by leaps and bounds.
They post informative graphics, meditation techniques, and book recommendations. Many of their suggestions are rooted in their collective history.
Psychologist Jennifer Mullan realized traditional forms of therapy often ignores the fact that trauma often stems from systemic racism.
Her account @decolonizingtherapy provides a space for people to find others who share their traumatic experiences, especially within the context of racism.
