WAR & PEACE

WAR: I will abstain from the merry dance and
bright yellow fields of your fancy for a
solemn moment about myself for fierce
determination before black granite’s
real-life reflection and its single mind

PEACE: Oh what scenes unfold in front of mine eyes
from my bronze-tipped fingers I throw a light
like a scintillating prism’s allure
creating sparks in the sky and touching
hearts with the very essence of colour

WAR: I was taught by an Old Warrior to make
this everlasting fight against our kind
including you - yet with my sword shining
anew I pledge to serve in right and truth
with our cooperating hands entwined

PEACE: He rises from the shadows in expectation
with sword unsheathed advancing towards
her blue-green eyes … lyrical, intimate,
exclusive to him - “Take me for a time,”
she cries, “and be the love, oh, memory mine.”

WAR: In this sacred rhyme with the doors safely
bolted he is with this woman completely
serene in strength and felicity
shedding his armour and all that he owns
for a place neither could have found alone
