Walmart Settles Opioid Lawsuits
Description
Walmart ($WMT@US) has agreed to pay $3.1 billion to settle lawsuits brought by several states, cities, and Native American tribes claiming that the company contributed to the opioid crisis in those communities. The Justice Department filed a lawsuit in December 2020 claiming that the company understaffed its pharmacies and pressured employees to fill prescriptions quickly in an effort to boost profits. Walmart said in a statement that it strongly disputes allegations made in the lawsuits and that the settlement isn’t an admission of liability.
