Over one hundred and seventy VW Beetle owners gather in Cinquantenaire park, to start a tour of central Brussels. Held on the weekend nearest to Saint Valentines Day, it's a special event for "Herbie" fans as the VW Beetle is commonly known.

Over 170 Volkswagen Beetles gathered in Cinquantenaire Park in Brussels on Sunday for the fourth annual Love Bugs Parade.

Admirers of the iconic car - also known as "Herbies" - came from Belgium, the Netherlands and Northern France.

Beetles lined-up preparing for a 30 minute drive around the city.

Describing the car's popular appeal.

[Jean-Marc Ponteville, Spokesman, VW Public Relations]:
"Around 170 cars are registered, they are called 'ladybug' in French, 'kever' in Dutch, 'Kaefer' in German... they have different names. There are not only old herbies, as there are new beetles, and then the beetle coming back in a brand new edition."

Participants say being Beetles enthusiasts make them feel part of a wider community.

[Geoffroy Spitaels, Belgian VW Beetle Driver and Collector]:
"Everything is a good excuse to drive our VW beetle, next week we will go to a dinner-carnival, they are part of our families, they are part of our lives."

Herbie fans appreciate the event.

[Christian Goelen, VW Beetle Driver]:
"My first car when I got married in 1972 was a VW beetle, I've kept it for 12 years. We left with it the first year on our honeymoon because we could not spend much. The year after also, we camped, we loaded the car completely it was a true folklore, but I have great memories."

The Love Bugs parade started on a Saint-Valentine's day, February 14, in 2009.

The name of the parade refers to the title of the well known Walt Disney comedy film "The Love Bug" (1968) which starred a Volkswagen Beetle named "Herbie".
