VW: carmaker to announce action plan

Volkswagen says it is confident it can fix the software in some of the cars involved in the US-emissions rigging scandal.

11 million vehicles are affected worldwide.

The company says it will announce plans for one of the biggest recalls and refits in history. Some say it could cost 5.7 billion euros.

Herbert Diess, Board Director of the VW passenger cars brand, says an action plan will be forthcoming. “We have been working on various solutions, with a particular focus on our customers at the moment. We will probably approach our customers with a software revision and perhaps also slight engine modifications and suggest solutions over the coming months to be carried out on the vehicles.”

VW-owned Spanish brand SEAT has now said 700,000 of its vehicles are affected.

Analysts say the emissions-rigging scandal is the biggest for VW in its 78-year history.
