VPN on Win7 Ultimate (PPTP)

*Copykat demonstrates how to deploy a VPN Server and how to configure a VPN Connection on Client Side.

**Local Area Network (LAN)**

Steps:

**Server Side**
A. Create a User Account (or use your own) on the VPN Server for VPN Access. This user NEEDS A PASSWORD.
B. Create the Incomming Connection Interface on VPN Server. Choose the created User Account (or your own).
C. Specify the Range of IP Addresses that will be available for your client machine. **Only use available IP's on Server Side**
D. Create the corresponding Port Forwarding on your Router and Firewall...
Protocol= TCP , Direction= Incomming, Port= 1723, Action= Allow
Protocol= GRE, Action= Allow
(Or disable the firewall as we did on the demonstration)

**Client Side**
A. Setup a new connection TO A WORKPLACE (VPN) and use your Internet Connection (VPN)
B. When prompted, Type your VPN Server's IP Address (or domain) and give a name to the connection. **Make sure "Dont connect now" is ticked***
C. When prompted, Type the username and the password that we created on the Server Side (or your own). Copykat recommends to do so in the format...

VPNServerMachineName\UserAccountOnServerSide

D. Head to the "Adapter Settings", Select your VPN Connection and choose "Properties"
E. At "Security Tab", select the protocol PPTP (Point to Point Tunneling Protocol
F. At "Networking Tab", selct the TCP IPv4 Protocol and setup the DNS Servers pointing to the VPN Server IP Address.
G. Now, Test the VPN Connection and have Fun!

**Optional**
Test if you can share files between server and client through "SMB" (File sharing)
If you try the Ping Test, remember that firewall blocks pings by default, so make sure it is disabled or make a rule on it for ICMP Traffic!
