Volcanic Ash Blankets Large Areas of Java
869 Views • Feb 15, 2014
Description
Volcanic ash fell on large areas of Java in the wake of a February 13 eruption of Mount Kelud. Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency ordered the evacuation of more than 100,000 people from areas near the volcano. Several airports were closed and at least two people were killed. On February 14, the cloud moved west across the island, depositing volcanic ash as far away as Yogyakarta, shown here. The city is some 200km from the volcano. Credit: Raihanah Rahmah
