i am the indistinct whisper of sand
the honest voice of the bricks

i am the seed of the papaya
hiding within me papayas many times my size
tender as a thought

i am your curse, my people
who have suffered a thousand wrongs
your yearning
flickering in the thickest dark
a little way off

i am a heap of tattered clothes
sort through me
someday i toowill seem dear to you
like the lantern
in whose light
is studying
engrossed
your son
