Violet Llewellyn - Growing Young

Today I lost myself
Into a little child again
And I found myself laughing
Too long; too loud; at nothing
While whirling like a dervish
Imagining a great billowing costume
With red chiffon pants
And gold beads in my hair
It's in this abandon I found myself
Though a different self
With a different perspective
And I hope never to go back to the other self
Because that one I see now as terrible
Too old; too rigid; too caught up in life
I want never to see her again
With her cold reason
Bringing on embarassment
And nervousness
And all the thing's a child doesn't feel
Or at least can ignore
I'm happy for this loss in myself
Because you grow and learn
Bigger and older and harsher
Until all you want to do
Is grow young
