Inside the bars of a golden cage,
Savoring the fresh corn of maize,
There is everything to eat and gaze,
It is the golden cage of bondage;

They love me they say,
With a gift to eat and play,
They need me to please,
From their bored life to ease;

It is not the love I need,
I wish to fly in the breeze,
With a feeling of myself free,
For which I am born, you see;

I will love you if you leave me free
From golden bondage for myself to feed,
Like a poor farmer toiling in the field,
With my likes, perching on top of a tree;
