Vermaelen comeback likely before February
Description
Arsene Wenger has revealed a clearer picture over what role Thomas Vermaelen will play in Arsenal's Premier League title race.
Vermaelen has been sidelined since August with an Achilles injury that was initially thought would only rule him out for a few days.
But the Belgian centre-back has now had the end of January earmarked for his comeback and Wenger admits the next few training sessions will be critical.
"If he has another setback I don't know what the medical staff will do. But overall they look quite optimistic he will be back in January."
Speaking at a press conference, the Frenchman admitted that securing three points against an out-of-form Chelsea is vital to his side's Premier League chances.
The Arsenal manager said the league is so tight this year that he has no idea who will win it. He also laughed off comments made by Manchester United midfielder Nani, which suggested Arsenal were out of contention.
