Babylon was an ancient city of Lower Mesopotamia. after which it became the capital of a vast empire under the rule of Hammurabi (eighteenth century. C.). Since then it became in a great center political, religious and cultural. Even in the Hellenistic period, and stripped of its Second Empire and disgrace compared to other big cities like Persepolis, Alexander the Great wanted to make it his capital.
