I hope that one day I see you again
If only just to tell you
I don’t know what I expect
I’m not sure what I want

Maybe I want us to go back
To what we had

It was the fate of being in the right place
At the right time
When the right person could have been you
It was better than having nothing
At least then I could pretend
That I had you

We talked for hours
About the most mundane things
It didn’t matter what we discussed
So long as it was just you and me

You shake your head when you think too much
Your hands quiver when you speak
I wanted you for all your imperfections
But you couldn’t accept mine

I remember one night
I told you that I didn’t think I was capable of being loved
Did that scare you away?
All your life you’ve coveted love but
You wanted a guarantee and
I couldn’t promise you it

So inevitably, you left
Callously pushed me out of your life
With no way to find you
To bring you back
Left with only your memory and
The realization that
We were just two lonely kids
Desperately seeking themselves
In each other.
