US landslide kills 3

A wall of mud and debris swept across this highway in Washington state.

At least three people died and eight more have been injured.

The landslide was caught on camera by Paulo Falcao who was driving along the road at the time.

(SOUNDBITE)(English) PAULO FALCAO, WITNESS, SAYING:

"I was coming down the hill, I just saw the darkness, like somebody wants to grab you, and everything was gone, like three seconds."

At least six houses were destroyed by Saturday's landslide in Snohomish county.

(SOUNDBITE)(English) LOCAL RESIDENT DAMON DAVIS SAYING:

"Fire department came in an emergency and told us we all had to evacuate."

(SOUNDBITE)(English) LOCAL RESIDENT CARRIE DAVIS SAYING:

"We're going to lose our house. We have a brand new house down there."

Heavy rains are being blamed for the landslide which also blocked a nearby river.
