Urticaria rashes - Neil Niren MD Practice

Urticaria rashes are very similar to the skin changes caused by stinging nettles. Hence the name hives. The rash retains on the spot for 24 hours, and then appears on another part of the body. Urticaria can occur due to activities that lead to sweating and rashes, but also from food, drugs and infections. A third of the population at least once in their lives had hives after eating certain foods, such as strawberries. These rashes last for five or six days and are very unpleasant, informs Dr Neil Niren MD.
Antihistamines are used for treatment, and if the person does not respond to them, we proceed to systemic corticosteroid therapy. The disease can be very persistent and last for months or even years, but the therapy can be kept under control.
