Wandering through the city drunk
And beset with fever,
I carried gold earrings
In my breast pocket
To personally place
Into her ears,
I was delirious
Beneath cold stars,
I slept all night
In a rain-filled gutter
With dogs pissing on me like trash.

I was never
So desperately in love,
And I’ll never be again.

I was a candidate
For the insane asylum,
But I was exquisitely happy!
