I was friendless in the daylight
Dragging myself through city streets
For any type of contact with human beings
I thought I could achieve;
I was hoping I would suddenly hear a voice
And receive kindness from a stranger
Who would take me by the hand and lead me
To a gentle lake where I could make
A necklace of flowers to place
Around her Audrey Hepburn-like neck:
These are always the fantasies
Of a man exiled in the land of loneliness and poetry.
