“Uppercut” is the kind of boxing movie that doesn’t ask for your sympathy. Toni is trying to break through barriers, and she’s not just talking about the ring. She’s dealing with the constant noise of what people think “a woman” should be in 2025. Then Elliott shows up. He’s a tough former champion and basically a gym owner with zero interest in motivational posters. He decides to train her, and the mismatch is the whole engine of the story. The sparring isn’t just action filler. Elliott’s sharp, blunt lessons keep pressing Toni to rethink what strength even means. By the time the movie shifts toward guiding another fighter toward a big championship moment, it’s clear the real work happened long before the bell rings.

Nicht nur im Ring, sondern auch durch die nervigen Erwartungen an das, was „eine Frau“ angeblich zu sein hat. Genau da tritt Elliott auf: Ex-Boxchampion, harte Kante, Gym-Owner-Sturkopf-Modus. Er nimmt sie fürs Training an, und natürlich prallen Welten aufeinander. Es wird gesparrt, korrigiert, und Elliotts Blick ist so trocken, dass er fast schon wieder hilft.
