Unusual Flowing Sand Toy

This toy was made in Taiwan, over 20 years ago. It was called 'Novel Sands.' There are many toys that involve flowing sand, but the design of this one is quite unusual. There are three separate compartments, each containing a different coloured sand.

There are different amounts of each type of sand, and the holes that allow the sand to flow from the top compartment to the bottom one are in different places. Thus, when you invert the toy, an extraordinary landscape is created in not only the bottom chamber, but also in the top one. Quite mesmerising!
