Unequal Opportunities in England

Only a few of the unnecessary burdens I have had to carry so far, in Britain, alone, as a foreigner.
All of the past tense instances occurred before the recession reared its ugly head, so that won't be a reason for the crap there and then...
My question is, what are politicians doing, in this day and age, in a country which is supposed to be called "Great"...
