Underground City Lights

The Paris metro sees the light of day in July 1900. Artificial lighting makes it possible to build it underground. From the white bevelled tiles that reflect light to the decorative lamp casing, everything is designed to improve lighting in the stations.
The choice of light sources evolves as technology progresses. Dim lighting from carbon filament lamps is replaced by that of fluorescent tubes in the 1950s.
Today, the RATP is switching these millions of lamps to LED, a new energy-saving and cleaner technology.
