UNA MIRADA

If I were the Good Lord's friend,
If I knew any prayers,
If I had blue blood,
The ability to erase and do everything over again,
If I were queen or a magician,
A princess, a fairy, a great captain
of a noble regiment,
If I had the footstep of a giant,

I would put into the sky in misery
All the tears in the river
And flowers would grow were hope itself flew by,*
I would sow the seeds of utopias, to bend would be forbidden,
We wouldn't turn away our gaze again.

If I had thousands and hundreds,
Talent, strength, or the charms
Of the masters, the powerful;
If I had the keys to their souls
If I knew how to take up arms

In the fire of an army of titans,
I would light up the flames
In the extinguished dreams of children
I would make colors out of punishments
I would create an Eden
With no luck, no stars, with less than nothing.

But I have nothing but a heart in rags
And two hands stretched out on twigs
A voice which the wind chases away in the morning;
But if our bare hands gather
Our millions of hearts together
If our voices unite,
What winters could withstand it?

A strong world, a sister spirit land
We will build in these ashes
Little by little, bit by bit,
