Umami Stories: Burrito

A person writes things they love onto a tortilla late at night. The tortilla comes alive and starts eating those memories and people.

The more they feed it — dad’s hands, mom’s laugh, your sleeping face — the stronger it gets. It moves into the fridge, demands to be fed at 2:17am every night, and eventually consumes the neighbors, a health inspector, and the narrator’s ability to love.

By the end, the burrito can’t be thrown away. It’s living in the walls, the narrator’s teeth, and everything they ever loved.

Final warning: Check your own fridge.
