Ukraine army on high alert

Ukraine's army is on high alert amid growing tension with Russia, with army chiefs saying troops and armor are ready to protect borders.

(SOUNDBITE) (Ukrainian) COLONEL ANDRIY GRYSHCHENKO, SAYING:

"The mechanized armor is ready for use and ready to protect the integrity and security of Ukraine's borders and protect the Ukrainian people."

Ukraine mobilized for war Sunday. That came as Washington threatened to isolate Russia economically after President Vladimir Putin declared he had the right to invade his neighbor in Moscow's biggest confrontation with the West since the Cold War.

One member of parliament, Petro Poroshenko, says Ukraine will concede nothing.
