Description
A driver's union is urging people not to log on to the app today.
Uber drivers stage a protest outside the company's office on Washington Street in Glasgow.
Members of the App Drivers and Couriers Union are calling on the company to follow a court ruling and pay them for waiting times which can make up around 40% of working hours.
Passengers are also being asked not to "cross the digital picket line" by booking a journey with the service.
Glasgow Chairman, Eddie Grice, told Clyde 1: "Uber drivers are taking a stand this week against Uber's contempt for worker rights.
"Our demands are simple, Uber must comply with the Supreme Court ruling in full and cease flouting a judgement handed down from the highest court in the land."
24 hour strike
The protest is part of a 24-hour strike of Uber drivers which started at midnight.
There will also be protests in other parts of the UK this afternoon including London, Manchester and Leeds.
Eddie added: "They must also scrap their fixed pricing model which is nothing more than veiled wage theft, and they must put an end to unfair dismissals."
"This is being carried out on a massive scale without any semblance of due process and without evidence to back up allegations."
The toughest year for taxi drivers
A spokesperson for Uber said: “Following the historic trade union recognition deal with GMB, drivers have an even stronger voice within Uber.
"We are working together with our trade union partner to raise standards for drivers through greater transparency and engagement.
"GMB represents drivers in areas such as earnings, deactivations and the implementation of new worker benefits, such as holiday pay and pensions.”
