U.S. To Test ICBM Missile Interceptor
Description
by Jonathan Sanger
The U.S. Military is preparing to launch an ICBM interceptor missile test, marking the first time the U.S. has tried to take out an intercontinental missile. The interceptor will be launched from California and the ICBM-like rocket will launch from the Marshall Islands. The interceptor works by hitting an incoming missile at high speed, but the system hasn’t always performed well — it’s only worked nine out of seventeen times. The U.S. test comes amid North Korea’s ongoing missile launches — they’ve tested eight missiles this year, including one with a range of around 2,500 miles, according to military analysts. The ground-based midcourse defense system test will take place Tuesday. The post U.S. To Test ICBM Missile Interceptor appeared first on Vocativ.
