Typhoon Fitow made landfall in China's Zhejiang province on Monday (October 7) morning, state media reported.

Typhoon Fitow struck the eastern Chinese coast at around 01:15 AM (1715 GMT Sunday October 6) local time, state broadcaster CCTV said.

As of now, flights in several airports across eastern China have been canceled and high-speed trains from major cities as well as maritime transportation in the region have been suspended, official news agency Xinhua said.

Footage carried by CCTV showed fallen trees on flooded roadsides and traffic disrupted by the typhoon on early Monday morning.

A boy was injured by flying glass as a result of the typhoon's strong winds on Monday, Xinhua added.

Xinhua said that thousands were evacuated to safety and authorities issued the highest weather alert level before the typhoon hit.
