The video of two John Jay High School players brutally hitting an official went viral and launched an investigation into the more violent act. The two players who hit the referee have been suspended while the investigation runs its course, and the district is proceeding with this case as an assault on a school official. The players claimed that the incident occurred because said official kept using racial slurs against them and one of their coaches suggested targeting him.
