Description

After fifteen years the fascination with the Columbine school shooting continues and playwright Nathaniel Sam Shapiro is hoping that curiosity will pack theater seats and prevent another tragedy with "The Erlkings."

SOUNDBITE: Nathaniel Sam Shapiro, playwright, saying (English):

"Art has a role to play in this, and more specifically theater. That if an audience comes they can learn about who these boys were, what it took for them to do what they did. And maybe reach out were in the past and in our everyday lives we don't."

While the subject matter of the production is igniting criticism, Shapiro says his goals are the same as his opponents.

SOUNDBITE: Nathaniel Sam Shapiro, playwright, saying (English):

"I think that in some ways they were ignored and other ways they failed by not being forthcoming with how they felt. And this play because we're using those words that sometimes were for no one to see but themselves - we're creating that event."
