Through the day politicians made progress on forming a unity government to fill the power vacuum, with the details of who will be part of that expected on Monday.
But the security situation is still fragile, anxious residents are arming themselves and forming militias against the police and the army.
And food and fuel supplies are running short, as shops and markets remain closed for a second day.
Al Jazeera's James Bays reports from Tunis, the capital.
