Tummy tuck constricted belly button

A constricted belly button is when your belly button becomes very small after surgery. In a previous video, we discussed some of the causes of a constricted belly button. The belly button is a circle and when it is closed there is a scar around the belly button. During the healing process, the tension tends to pull the belly button towards the midline. In some cases, this pull is very strong, resulting in a constricted belly button after the surgery.
Unfortunately, it is quite unpredictable because it depends on the tension and the length of the belly button stalk. Sometimes, the tension caused by the closure affects the look of your belly button.
So how can you solve this issue? The solution is usually to inject Kenalog in the scar, which is a steroid. But if this treatment fails, the surgeon will have to revise the belly button through a surgery. This procedure can be done in the clinic under local anesthetic.
When a belly button is constricted, it means that the top of the belly button, the hole or the opening is small. With that said, underneath you still have a normal-sized bellybutton. This means that the whole belly button stalk did not get constricted, it is just the surface or top part. As a result, it is necessary to perform a scar revision to open this area.
With a scar revision, the scar is cut around the belly button. As soon as the scar is removed, you will see the belly button stalk completely. Because a new hole is created, the opening is sutured back to the upper part of the stalk recreating the belly button.
I like to inject Kenalog after performing a revision of a constricted belly button because it will help prevent it from occurring again. Nevertheless, just because you have a revision, does not mean it will never happen again.
In general, revision of a constricted belly button is the last resort in my protocol. Also, it is something that I do not see frequently, but if it happens, there is nothing to worry about because there are options available.
