Trump Pleads Not Guilty

Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty to illegally retaining and sharing classified national-security documents after leaving the White House. In a speech at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, Trump lashed out at federal prosecutors and portrayed himself as a victim of political persecution, calling it "the most evil and heinous abuse of power in the history of our country." The indictment alleges that Trump retained documents containing sensitive information about defense and weapons capabilities, nuclear programs, and potential vulnerabilities to military attack. Trump's current aide, Walt Nauta, was also charged with the case. The former president and Nauta pleaded not guilty to all charges. The indictment is the first to come from the investigation by special counsel Jack Smith.
