Trump administration to suspend foreign student work program: Reports
10 Views • May 24, 2020
Description
The Trump administration is reportedly planning to suspend a program that lets international students get on-the-job training in the U.S. after finishing their education.
That's according to multiple reports citing administration officials who say the plan is to help new American graduates in this economic downturn who could use those entry-level positions.
The new guidelines for Optional Practical Training, or OPT as it's known, are expected to be announced in an executive order this month.
Those defending OPT, however, say suspending it would deprive America of the contributions of these foreign students to the economy, education and research.
