Trucker Takes Harrowing Drive Through Delta Fire

A California trucker said he “didn’t have a choice” but to drive through the Delta Fire on Wednesday, September 5, when the blaze ran up to Interstate 5 as he was headed north.

Amit Sekhri told Storyful the fire “suddenly picked up” and he had no opportunity to turn around “even knowing it might be dangerous.”

“I was surrounded with fire,” he said.

By Thursday morning, the fire had topped 15,000 acres, and Interstate 5 was shut down for miles as the fire burned on both sides of the highway. Credit: Amit Sekhri via Storyful
