Trial date set for Gaddafi son

Libya's prosecutor-general says the trial of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of Libya's ousted dictator, will start next month.

He's accused of crimes during his father's 42-year rule and during the country's civil war in 2011.

But his fate is the subject of a complex feud.

The fighters who captured him and are still holding him in Zintan want him tried on their home turf.

Libya's government wants to try him in Tripoli.

The International Criminal Court wants to try him for war crimes in the Hague.

Libya's ICC representative said he'd argue Tripoli's case.

(SOUNDBITE)(Arabic) AHMED AL-JEHANI, LIBYA'S REPRESENTATIVE AT THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT, SAYING:

"These kinds of decisions give me an opportunity to show Libya as a country that supports justice and that the Libyan court can deal with these trials according to international customs."

Saif al-Islam has already appeared before a court in Zintan on other charges.
