Ao lado de seus amigos – Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), Tommy (Kevin McKidd), Spud (Ewen Bremner) e Begbie (Robert Carlyle) – ele curte futebol e usar sua droga favorita o tempo todo. Cada um desses personagens peculiares tem uma história diferente, ora divertida, ora dramática, e todas elas se cruzam por conta do vício. Renton vai além dos limites o tempo todo e isso tem um preço. Cabe ao rapaz e a seus amigos tomar as rédeas de suas vidas e sair dessa. Mas será que eles querem realmente viver assim?
