Tove Lo debut out now

After crafting songs for the likes of Girls Aloud and fellow Swedes Icona Pop, singer-songwriter Tove Lo is going it alone.

The 26-year-old from Stockholm has just released her debut album ‘Truth Serum’ and hopes to follow in the footsteps of contemporaries like Robyn and Avicii with her unique brand of confessional electropop.

She says ‘Truth Serum’ is all about going through a breakup and how to deal with it.

“It’s about a relationship from beginning to end and kind of the parts after, trying to get over it in various ways. So it’s very much my feelings on the roller-coaster during the start of when you’re really in love, going into it when it’s starting to feel a bit less good, then you make a mistake, or I made a mistake, and you know, kind of how that all falls into pieces, really,” she says.

Tove Lo hopes her debut single ‘Habits’, which hit top ten in Denmark last month, will act as a calling card for the collection, which she is currently promoting across Europe and the US.

“Some people only hear the kind of party side of the song, the fun, quirky stuff, but there’s definitely the undertone of the painful thing that I’m actually going through in it. So it came from that – just trying to numb the pain, but the pain’s obviously still there,” says the artist.

The album has opened to mostly positive reviews with one critic praising the authenticity of this pop-star-in-waiting.
