My older brother taught
Me how to swim
Or tried at least in the brackish beach
Water,

Till a wave came along, the prince of
Them, blue and destructive
Taking me out of his teenaged hands.

Today we’re not close. I wonder
Over a brooding beer, if he wished he’d let me die,
Avoiding the quiet, when years go dim.
