Tomokazu Murakami was born in 1979 in Otaru, Hokkaido in Japan. In 1985, he entered the primary school "Hanazono" and became interested in singing. In 1987 as a boy soprano he won the grand prize in the contest of singing Douyou. He sang "Let's to turn our hands to the sun."

1988, He won the grand prize for the second straight year singing "I could find out the small autumn."

1989, He won the second prize in the Mainichi newspaper industry music contest with Ave Maria.
